Inhalt:
Students will have to EITHER offer a presentation of a prospective bachelor's thesis OR undertake a short oral exam on one of the texts on our reading list. Additionally, ALL students will have to read ALL the texts on that list. This will be tested in regular intervals. Exception: texts marked * do not have to be read by B.Ed. students.

Empfohlene Literatur:
Here is a simple list of texts in the order in which we are going to discuss them, so you can get reading soon!

-William Shakespeare, As You Like It#
-William Shakespeare, King Lear
-John Donne, "Batter my heart"
-Rupert Brooke, "Sonnet Reversed"
-Aphra Behn, "The Disappointment"
-Alexander Pope, An Essay on Man, Epistle I*
-Jonathan Swift, A Modest Proposal
-Charlotte Smith, "The Female Exile"
-William Wordsworth, "The Prelude, Book One, lines 357-400"
-Walter Scott, "The Two Drovers"*
-Katherine Mansfield, "The Garden Party"
1 contemporary drama (tba)#

TEXTS:
# = _As You Like It_ to be watched in class. Modern drama to be watched OR read.

All other texts: As the challenge here is extensive reading, the format you choose to read the texts in is immaterial. You will find all the texts online in their entirety. You will also find many of them in various anthologies. With the pre-1800 texts in particular, I would recommend the use of an annotated edition, but this, too can be found online (for instance here: http://www.shakespeare-online.com/plays/ ) .
