Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: Course Lectures/Tutorials: Wednesday 13:00-15:00 Place: Institut für Physik, Staudingerweg 7, CIP pool 03.423 Lecturer: Dr. Udo Birk The languages used throughout the course will be English and German. This course addresses students who hold a Masters or Diplom degree in Physics or Biophysics.
Inhalt: In the course/tutorial, a general introduction to the concept of numerical modelling in biology will be given, based on the programming environment MATLAB, with emphasis on deterministic models. Students will be given exercises to model the physical processes related to various biological phenomena, and to evaluate the potential of the corresponding model for prediction of the behaviour of biological systems. Examples encompass basic chemistry of amino acids, biophysics of cell membranes, modelling of polymers, as well as signalling and transport.
