Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: Introduction to Website Design on the Basis of An Authentic Project In this course, students will have the opportunity to acquire and develop solid website design skills that can complement the range of language mediation skills they are acquiring in other courses. We will have a series of taught sessions in which students will become acquainted with website design in general and the very popular website development tool WORDPRESS. In order to have an authentic context for our work, we will be focusing our efforts on the redesign of the webpages on "Innovative approaches to translator education" that the course facilitator created some 15 years ago (see: http://www.fb06.uni-mainz.de/user/kiraly/English/Frameset.html). While we will surely not have enough time to update or rewrite the entire website, we will attempt to create a solid framework with a set of themes and some sample content that can be further expanded on in another course in the near future. Our class sessions will take place in a computer-based classroom (Room 151) with limited seating and equipment, so the number of participants will be strictly limited to 15. Students need not have any particular background prior to taking the course! We will be starting our work with the basics. However, students with prior knowledge of website design and particularly students who have already used Wordpress will be very welcome in the course! Course Requirements Regular attendance will be of the essence! Each student or pair of students will be responsible for creating one small section of the website and placing suitable content in it. In addition to website design skills, course participants will hence also have to deal with the thematic content of the website –– just like real life!
