Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: Prerequisites: C-Test English with qualification for level C1 or successful completion of an English course at the B2.2 level (B2.2 leaving grade 2,3 or better). Credit requirements: regular attendance and participation and a presentation plus handout.
Inhalt: This course is designed for natural scientists who want and need to improve their skills in writing and speaking in an academic and professional context and to acquire additional relevant vocabulary and understanding of various types of scientific literature. Topics will be chosen from books and current publications according to the make-up of the group. Classwork includes discussions of the above, exercises in different kinds of writing and vocabulary areas, as well as work on expression and grammatical proficiency. Students will be expected to compile a glossary of terms specific to their fields and to give a presentation on a topic of their choice and deal with ensuing questions.
