Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: This course is designed specifically for MA students with a high level of competence in written English (we will be subtitling only INTO English this semester and we will be working on two authentic subtitling projects). In particular, auditors and ERASMUS exchange students must have first-rate communicative competence in English (C1) in order to participate! Course format Because of the early deadlines for our authentic projects this semester, this course will be run partly as an intensive block seminar. ALL students will be required to attend our one single intensive session on Saturday, April 25th in Room 133 from 10:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. This intensive session, corresponding to four regular class sessions, will replace the last four classes of the semester! This will give us the opportunity to acquire a solid theoretical and practical knowledge of the norms and techniques of subtitling in one day so that we can begin our authentic project work the following week, and so that we can finish our authentic projects in time. N.B. All students will need to bring a working notebook computer with MS Windows on it to our intensive class session. Please note: instead of our regular meeting at 8:00 on 6. May in Room 151, we will be meeting from 9:40-11:00 that day in Room 328. We will be meeting during that session with the client who has commissioned the subtitling of the two films we will be working on in the SS. The purpose will be to exchange ideas and gather information on what the films are intended to communicate and on how we can make the best contribution to these two projects.
