Inhalt: In this seminar, incoming students of the social sciences from all over the world are invited to discover Germany from a social scientist’s view. The three lecturers are all social scientists themselves with distinct perspectives on the subject at hand. The seminar is going to be split up into two sections of 5 sessions each. In the first part the subject will be “The social scientist’s view on politics, society and media in Germany”. In this section we will discuss the German political system and its history. The German society and media and their interaction will also be relevant in this section. In the second part we will talk about “The social scientist’s view on german culture and family”. In this section we will talk about German culture and its implication on everyday family life. Other topics in this connection will be religious diversity, immigration and integration in Germany.
Zusätzliche Informationen: The seminar takes place on Monday from 14:00 to 16:00. The tutorial takes place on Friday from 14:00 to 16:00. In the seminar, the students obtain 5 ECTS credits for attendance, written test, oral presentation and homework assignment. In the tutorial, the students obtain 3 ECTS credits.
