Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: This will be a 'blended learning' course, which means that we will be combining (a set of three) group class sessions with e-learning in the completion of a several authentic translation projects. In this case, authentic means that the texts we translated will be published for a real readership and that the course participants will be indicated as the translators of the translated texts. This is the fourth iteration of this course and the second time that we will be working partly in distance-learning mode. In the three previous courses, the participants demonstrated a great deal of responsibility in terms of their ability to work in teams, competence at translating difficult English texts from German into English, and tremendous ability to ensure a high level of quality in their translations. These qualities will be expected of the course participants this time around as well. As you can see from our course schedule, we will meet as a whole group only THREE times this semester. Our three-hour sessions will be held on Wednesday afternoon (11:20-12:50 in HS 348) at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the semester. We will use these sessions to 1) be introduced to the project and to working independently from a distance, 2) to review our work done by the middle of the semester and 3) to review and assess your progress over the course of the semester at the end. Like every e-learning course, the success of this one will be dependent on the course participants acting responsibly and dependably and with the necessary degree of patience to ensure the success of the course. Our project work will comprise the translation of two 45-page documents on topics in the area of sustainable economics published in pdf form on the "Factory - Magazin für nachhaltiges Wirtschaften" websitE (http://www.factory-magazin.de), which you should definitely consult BEFORE signing up for the course to make sure that you are prepared to handle this much work and texts of this level of difficulty. Other than looking carefully at the FACTORY website, no other preparation will be required prior to the beginning of the course. IT WILL BE ESSENTIAL FOR ALL COURSE MEMBERS TO ATTEND ALL THREE ON-SITE GROUP SESSIONS!
