Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: Dieser Kurs gilt nur für Bachelor. Magister- oder StaatsexamenskandidatInnen können diesen Kurs nicht besuchen.
Inhalt: Students will have to EITHER offer a presentation of a prospective bachelor's thesis OR undertake a short oral exam on one of the texts on our extensive reading list. Additionally, ALL students will have to read ALL the texts on our reading list. This will be tested in regular intervals.
Empfohlene Literatur: READING LIST: William Shakespeare, Hamlet, Othello Aphra Behn, Oroonoko Jonathan Swift, A Modest Proposal, Gulliver's Travels Pt 1: A Voyage to Lilliput Jane Austen, Love and Friendship Poetic Forms: The Sonnet, The Ode, The Elegy (tba) Willy Russell, Educating Rita; Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead James Joyce, The Dead; Anthony Burgess, A Clockwork Orange; Martin Amis, What Happened to Me on My Holiday; Dylan Thomas, Under Milk Wood The task here is EXTENSIVE reading, so that you will not be required to use any particular edition. You will find versions of many of these texts online and/or in various Norton Anthologies (Oroonoko and Love and Friendship in the NA of Literature by Women; Gulliver's Travels in the NA of English Literature). Amis's short story is the only one that will be provided by me, as it may prove a little complicated to get hold of.
