Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches:
Inhalt: Cosmopolitanism, globalization, citizenship... Universalism? Individualism? Unity? Difference?... Black cosmopolitanism, ecocosmopolitanism, vernacular cosmopolitanism, indigenous cosmopolitanism, subaltern cosmopolitanism...Ways of imagining being together in the world... The Hauptseminar “Cosmopolitanisms” will examine the various manifestations of cosmopolitanism, particularly of recent years (hence the plural in the title). We will do intensive readings of theoretical texts – which students will be required to present in class. All core readings will be provided in a reader on ILIAS. Topics for term papers will be discussed at a later stage, although papers on the connection between translation/interpreting and cosmopolitanism will especially encouraged. In order to gain credit points for this seminar, you will be required to give a presentation, participate in discussion, submit minutes/position papers (1-2 times, pending class size), submit an abstract of your term paper, and submit a term paper of 4,500-5,000 words (due date 4 weeks after the end of semester).
