Dieses Seminar bietet die Gelegenheit an, eine nicht-indoeuropäische Sprache linguistisch tiefer zu behandeln.
Das Japanische bietet allgemeinen Linguisten, darunter auch Generativgrammatikern, einige lohnende Forschungsaufgaben, wie z. B. seine spezielle Passivkonstruktion, seine Fähigkeit, die Informationsstruktur morphologisch auszudrücken, und/oder die sprachgesellschaftliche Situation, die gemeinhin Diglossie genannt wird. In diesem Seminar werden solche Eigenschaften des Japanischen, einer für Europäer fremdartigen Sprache, behandelt und mit ‚gewöhnlichen‘ europäischen Sprachen verglichen. Durch die Analyse solch einer ‚fremdartigen’ Sprache kann man das Verständnis der allgemeinlinguistischen Begriffe vertiefen, was für das Übersetzen unentbehrlich ist.
Es wird auch behandelt, wie man zwischen solchen strukturell verschiedenen Sprachen übersetzen soll.
Kenntnisse vom Japanischen werden nicht vorausgesetzt.
Im Seminar werden die folgenden Themen behandelt. Von den Teilnehmern wird erwartet, mindestens ein Referat über eines der folgenden Themen zu halten. Bei jedem Thema wird erwartet, dass der Referent das Japanische mit einer anderen Sprache, z. B. mit dem Deutschen, vergleicht. Spontane Vorschläge über andere Themen sind ebenfalls willkommen.
