Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: Termin und Dozent dieser Veranstaltung haben sich geändert! Dieser Kurs findet als Blockseminar am 4. und 5. Januar 2013 von 9.00 bis 17.00 Uhr in P 103 statt. Bitte beachten, dass der 4. Januar in Jogustine auf einen Sperrtag fällt und deshalb eventuell nicht in Ihrem Stundenplan erscheint. Zusätzlich gibt es einen Vorbereitungstermin für das Seminarwochenende.
Inhalt: Much of contemporary Scottish fiction is about forging a new sense of Scottish identity or, as Cairns Craig has it, about the "fundamental role of narrative in the formation of national identity" (The Modern Scottish Novel: Narrative and the National Imagination, Edinburgh 1999). Thus, identity formation in view of 'British cultural imperialism' is of crucial significance in the novels we will investigate. Also, we will study the use of vernacular Scots, which often appears as a mix of blended English, idiolect and dialect.

(1961) in the school edition: Diesterweg, 2011. John Burnside: The Devils’s Footprints (2007) in the Vintage Edition, 2008. James Robertson: And the Land Lay Still (2010) in the Penguin Edition 2011. Please make sure you have read them all!
