Inhalt: One aspect of early Christianity which has received increased attention in the last thirty years is the concern with the body, expressed especially through the rise of asceticism. This course will examine ascetic ideals and practices primarily in the 4th century. The course will be taught in English and a high level of aural and reading comprehension is therefore necessary. Student essays and discussion can be done in German.
