Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: All students will have to demonstrate on a regular basis that they have been following proceedings actively and attentively, and short tests may be introduced in order to ensure this. Actual assessment will be undertaken by two written tests, though.
Inhalt: While this class is supposed to cover specialist translation (i.e. translating within narrowly defined fields requiring a specialist vocabulary), we will instead turn to some of the fields in which graduates in possession of an arts degree will most likely find themselves working.
Empfohlene Literatur: While this is by no means a necessity and will not prove relevant for every aspect of our class, I generally recommend this seminal work in the field of translation theory to anyone interested in translation and its cultural dimensions beyond the narrow context of one's having to pass a certain number of exams to complete one's degree: Lawrence Venuti, The Translator's Invisibility: A History of Translation (1995) - this is the first edition, a second edition was published in 2008.
