Inhalt: This class is a practical introduction to using and understanding the language of the humanities and the social sciences. It is recommended for people who plan to go abroad or who expect to attend international conferences and give presentations, as you will learn how to prepare and present papers. We will discuss current affairs as well as texts on various subjects. You are invited to bring your own texts as basis for discussion. The ability to express yourself in advanced written as well as spoken English is, of course, a prerequisite. To receive credit for this class, you have to attend regularly and engage in our discussions as well as do homework (prepare texts etc.). Furthermore, you are expected to give an oral presentation in English on a topic of your choice, which will be used to discuss your topic in class afterwards.
