Kursleitung: Lisa Rüth Please note that there will be a REQUIRED VORBESPRECHUNG for this course, to be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, 21 July in Room 237. It will be brief (no more than 30 minutes) but it will be essential that all participants attend! COURSE DATES!!! PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS COURSE IS BEING OFFERED IN BLOCK FORMAT. CLASSES WILL TAKE PLACE FROM OCTOBER 10-21, approximately five hours per day! And there will be plenty of required homework as well! So all participants should be completely free of other obligations for these two weeks!!
Inhalt: This will be an experiment in classroom-based second language acquisition with a focus on SPANISH! It is open to BA students only who wish to receive credit towards one of the modules in foreign language teaching (FSD). The course is suitable for students with absolutely no knowledge of Spanish, but is also open to those who have a very basic knowledge of the language (definitely NOT higher than A2). Please note that we expect to divide the group into two so that the beginning students will have their own class and teacher. The objective will be to learn about LANGUAGE TEACHING, LEARNING, and ACQUISITION by focussing on acquiring Spanish together in a unique classroom environment. Plans are to have a native speaker of Spanish in class with a tutoring role at all times. ALL interaction in class will take place in Spanish and the course will meet approximately five hours per day for two full weeks, so please sign up only if you are prepared to leave German outside of the classroom for a good portion of the day throughout the course. No attempt will be made to TEACH you Spanish in a conventional manner with hours of exercises and passive disembodied brain work. Instead, the objective will be to create a holistic LANGUAGE ACQUISITION environment in which each student will create his or her own Spanish language on the basis of authentic and comprehensible input. Please do NOT sign up for this class if you are not prepared to learn Spanish autonomously (with assistance of course!) It will be very important for the success of the course that all participants be open to an unconventional, holistic approach to language learning.
