Inhalt: "Britain in historical perspective" This course is meant to bring to life the people, places and events of the past and to chart the great moments of social and political change from the earliest settlers to the present day. Following the nine chapters in our Reader, such diverse topics as Power and Politics, Geography, Industry, Science and Invention, Imperialism, Education, Culture, Arts, Religions, Beliefs and Thought as well as the lives of ordinary men, women and children will be discussed. This cultural studies course serves as an introduction to British life and history. Its main aim is to provide a framework for any future studies of the British heritage and put language and literature as well as contemporary British culture and society into perspective.
