Inhalt: What is Chery's significance for the Chinese economy? Can the US and China disentangle their financial dependence? Is China colonizing Africa? This course examines these questions as it explores China's rise in the global economy. During the first few weeks, the seminar will examine China's former command economy and the transition to a socialist market economy. Next, the course will explore the impact of foreign direct investment, the WTO and China's quest for global competitiveness. Finally, the course will look at China's economic relationships with regions such as the U.S., the EU, Africa and Asia. In conclusion, the seminar will discuss how China's drive for economic growth impacts its general foreign policy.
