Inhalt: This course examines recent research on English word-formation. In a first part, we will review studies that have shed new light on issues such as stress-assignment in compound words, blending, the combinability of affixes, and verbal prefixation, considering both methodological and theoretical advances that have been made. In a second part, where students will present preliminary results of their own, small.scale empirical research studies (adopting an empirical, corpus-based/-driven perspective), the focus will be on the emergence, morphological status and productivity of a number of new word-forming elements that have made their way into the English language.
