Inhalt:
John Fowles's experimental novels, frequently labelled 'postmodernist', are informed by subplots and digressions. They problematize 'history', thematize the tension between fiction and reality and foreground 'existentialism'. Fowles demonstrates that the inventive contemporary novelist can write an experimental novel and still remain identifiably within the great tradition of the English novel thus achieving a compromise between fictional and empirical modes.

Empfohlene Literatur:
We will study The Collector (1963), The French Lieutenant's Woman (1969) and Daniel Martin (1977).
