Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: Students will be expected to keep up with the reading material and actively contribute to the class sessions, including presentations. The attendance requirement will be enforced and a roll (attendance register) will be taken.
Inhalt: The aim of this course is to give participants a broad overview of New Zealand life, under the general theme of “New Zealand – towards independence or interdependence?”. Each week we will investigate one or two topics relating to this theme, from politics to sport, the economy to education. Selected New Zealand films, television episodes and video clips will be used throughout the course to try and "bring New Zealand to life" as much as possible. Further details on the course content will be provided at the first session.
Empfohlene Literatur: A key component of this course are the required and optional readings (in PDF format), which will reinforce and enhance material taught in lectures. Details of how to access these PDF readings will be announced in the first session. Additional reading material will be provided in class.
