Inhalt: The ten years of the 1990s saw Ireland transform into a dynamic open and liberal society. Its economic growth rate became one of the highest in Europe with one of the results being that Ireland ceased to be a country marked by emigration as it had been for over 150 years. The thriving economy and attracted people to Ireland from all over the world. This seminar will look at the decade primarily in terms of Ireland's cultural development in its long standing literary tradition and in its newly found strengths in film making. The seminar will also examine aspects how the visual arts and dance developed in the period. Lectures, group work, some screening of film extracts will make up the bulk of the seminar.
