We will examine a wide selection of their texts (captivity narratives, historiographies, travel narratives, autobiographies, sermons, poetry, etc.) in order to discover basic themes and literary techniques of colonial literature. We will also pay attention to attempts by cultural and literary historians to relate the work of these writers to major trends and movements in transatlantic history.
