Inhalt: In this survey course you will study a wide range of manifestations of Renaissance poetry from the perspective of genre, form and function. Among the texts we will discuss are the sonnet/sonnet sequences, devotional/metaphysical poetry, the poetry of praise and epic poetry; in the process, we will attend to issues such as Petrarchism, patronage, nationhood and the private sphere (among others).
Empfohlene Literatur: Readings for this course will be made available via JGU-Reader before the beginning of the semester. You will be notified via Jogustine. A helpful anthology of poems to own is John Williams' recently republished English Renaissance Poetry: A Collection of Shorter Poems from Skelton to Jonson (1963/2016).
