Inhalt: The lecture-course is designed to introduce students to the politics of European integration. It particularly focuses on the EU’s institutions and the EU decision-making process. The course broadly contains the following elements: (a) European integration in historical perspective; (b) the main EU institutions (Commission, Parliament, Council, European Council, Court of Justice, the European Central Bank); (c) the EU policy cycle: from agenda-setting to policy implementation and evaluation; (d) EU policy instruments-;methods: from the Community method to the open-method of coordination; (e) EU negotiation modes/styles (bargaining, problem-solving, deliberation); (f) EU democracy and legitimacy; (g) the role of informal EU actors: advisory bodies and lobbies (+ lobbying in the EU); (h) public opinion and the EU (+ Euroscepticism); (i) the enlargement debate/fatigue; (j) the future of European integration.
