Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: Die Veranstaltung setzt lediglich politisches und rechtliches Grundwissen voraus. Kenntnisse des Unionsrechts werden nicht vorausgesetzt.
Inhalt: Überblick über Grundstrukturen und Grundwerte der Europäischen Union. Die Veranstaltung soll aus verfassungsrechtsvergleichendem und historischem Blickwinkel einen vielleicht überraschenden Blick auf die „Verfassung Europas“ werfen, von der wir vor allem in Deutschland erwarten, dass sie eine solche nicht ist. The European Union is the largest market in the world. It is the world's biggest exporter of manufactured goods and services and yet Europe is supposed to be much more than a Common Market. It was the goal of the founding fathers to guarantee peace, prosperity and freedom for a war-weary continent. The Union is based on a set of values held in common by the member States, but transformed into a new legal order capable of creating legal rights which could be enforced before the courts of the member states. These values include liberty, democracy, and the rule of law. But do these values suffice and can we build a Union on those alone? Critics claim that the governance of the EU lacks democratic legitimacy and neglects the resonable interests and purposes of Member States. Is that notion correct? Does the Brexit put an end to an ever growing Union? What will the Future of the European Project be?
