Inhalt: In this seminar, we will explore possible approaches to Renaissance theatre between page and stage. We will think about theories of (early modern) drama, questions of genre, theatre history and practice as well as dramatic communication. Throughout the semester, you will work in small groups and explore different ways of thinking about and reading the Shakespearean comedy As You Like It (ca. 1599). Please read this Shakespeare play as well as The Knight of the Burning Pestle (ca. 1607) before the semester starts; the other plays will be read in the order given here.
