Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches:
It is enough to have a bachelor of science in physics, knowledge of quantum mechanics, and basic of statistical mechanics. 

Inhalt:
The course provides an introduction to classical & quantum field theories, as well as many body methods, for the study of non-equilibrium systems. Lectures include development of both technical tools and concrete physical applications, and it serves as an invitation to a modern and active research area. 

Special focus will be devoted to dynamics and steady states of dissipative quantum many body physics, with applications in quantum optics, solid state and condensed matter physics.

  • Martin-Siggia-Rose functional,
  • Fokker-Planck equations,
  • classical non-equilibrium phase transitions,
  • quantum master equations,
  • Keldysh field theory,
  • dynamical phase transitions,
  • criticality of driven-dissipative quantum systems

The lectures will be based on:


  • A. Kamenev, Field Theory on Non-Equilibrium Systems, 1st ed. (Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 2011). 
  • A. Altland and B. Simons, Condensed Matter Field Theory, 2nd ed. (Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 2010).


 

Zusätzliche Informationen:
The target of the course are students in the curricula of condensed matter, high energy and solid state physics, with interest for theory.
