Inhalt: The core of this course is to practice speaking and listening skills in order to succeed in academic studies. You are going to gain the necessary tools to build, brick by brick, a solid and thorough presentation in English: language, structure, and strategies in situations at which one is challenged by difficult questions or has to disagree politely. Furthermore, it will help you to broaden your and to perfect your speech (e.g. hedging, being emphatic, arguing and persuading, etc.) in a variety of tasks, such as round table discussions and analysis of lectures and talks. Bear in mind that shyness will not be accepted as an excuse. We are going to work with a book published by National Geographic Learning that focuses on TED Talks. Moreover, the university learning platform OLAT is going to play a significant role on peer and teacher feedback, assignment of homework and tasks, and exchange of material. Registering and actively participating on OLAT assigned tasks are requirements to pass the course. Further information will be communicated in the first class.
