Inhalt:
In this three-day workshop, Visiting Lecturers Katy Kirbach and Matt Morris will engage participants in the optical and olfactory dimensions of contemporary art praxis. Drawing from the traditions of color theory and the constructions of perfumes, the workshop will explore the ways that context produces conceptions of form across different media and creative disciplines. The operations of color and light, along with the materiality and social dimensions of scent, will serve as resources for students to analyze the effects of color and fragrance. Drag, illusion, and perceptual strategies, along with advances in current technology and science will serve to locate this work in the profound present. The workshop culminates with consultations and critiques with Kirbach and Morris.
Please write to aroebke@students.uni-mainz, if you'd like to participate.

Kirbach’s work combines geometric abstraction and weaving, creating an interdependent relationship between the ‘structure’ of the support and the ‘ornamentation’ of the painting. In 2012 Kirbach was awarded the Abbey Scholarship in Painting at the British School at Rome, Italy. She is currently artist-in-residence at Villa Lena, Tuscany.
