32 students who have completed the B2 English Upper-Intermediate course (either B2.1 course with the grade 2,0 and higher or B2.2 course grade doesn’t matter) will be given priority; students who have reached level B2 or C1 in the placement test will also be given a priority.

Writing in general and writing at the university in particular is a necessary requirement to succeed in your studies. Furthermore, having to write reports or term papers in English poses a particular challenge because of both the foreign language and different conventions for texts in English. In this course, we will focus on acquiring this skill of writing in English in an academic context. For that purpose, we will read and analyze many various texts, first, to develop strategies for effective reading at the university and, second, to understand how a well-written text works. Such an understanding and critical analysis will help us plan, prepare, and draft our own academic texts. Producing a text will require good knowledge of many advanced features of grammar and vocabulary for academic writing, and, therefore, the course will help you develop your knowledge of English. Throughout the course, you will have to develop a piece of writing on your own that will be assessed at the end. In order to facilitate your progress and to allow for peer and teacher feed-back, the university learning platforms , LMS moodle & BigBlueButton will be used. Registering and actively participating on that moodle site are an essential requirement to pass the course. Further particulars will be communicated in the first class meeting.

Dieser Kurs wird hybrid durchgeführt. Hierfür ist es nötig ggfs. Software auf Ihren Rechner herunterzuladen und dafür zu sorgen, dass Sie über eine stabile Internetverbindung verfügen. Alle notwendigen Informationen erhalten Sie nach dem Abschluss der Anmeldephase von Ihrer Kursleitung.
Der Zugang zu den Kursen ist nur mit einem Ausdruck der Leistungsübersicht (Transcript of records) über einen am ISSK bereits besuchten Kurses (nicht älter als zwei Semester), einem dem Kursniveau entsprechendem Ergebnis vom Einstufungstest (s. unten) oder einem Nachweis von folgenden anerkannten Zertifikaten (siehe hier) möglich.
Die Klausur wird in der letzten Vorlesungswoche abgelegt. Die erbrachte Leistung wird für Studierende unter „Zusatzqualifikationen" auf dem Transcript of records ausgewiesen. Damit entfällt das Erstellen einer Bescheinigung! Eine Entscheidung, ob der Kurs synchron oder asynchron stattfindet, wird zeitnah entschieden.
Im Unterricht wird die Lernplattform Moodle benutzt! Sie werden nach der Anmeldephase eine Willkommens-Mail erhalten.
