Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: The course is designed to help you embark on the process of producing an M.A. thesis, which allows you to explore in depth an area of particular interest, and to complete an extended piece of focused research and writing. It provides you with advice on various stages of your work with the aim of enabling you to develop your research skills. On the one hand the course will give you the time and autonomy to produce genuinely thoughtful and original work, to develop advanced skills of independent working, and to give expression to your academic interests in an intellectually disciplined and creative way. On the other hand it will provide you with an opportunity to present your project and to receive feedback on the content and the methods and theories you use. Depending on circumstances, the course will also feature talks by international academics who are guests or fellows of the Obama Institute. In addition, the course will feature research design and skills workshops that provide practical guidance on how to identify a research topic, how to locate and evaluate data sources, and guidance on thesis writing.
