Inhalt: In this seminar we will do group projects to investigate a variety of issues in literary translation, covering different genres. Issues that can be addressed include: the translation of humour (e.g., wordplay in Oscar Wilde's works), translating culture-specific references (e.g., Manhattan Project), translating stories written in rhymes (e.g., in the children's book The Gruffelo), translating accents and dialects (e.g., Hagrid in Harry Potter), the translation of names (e.g., in Harry Potter), etc. The results of each research project will be presented in class (mandatory). We will determine the format (talk/poster/video) as is suitable for the respective project.
