Inhalt: Working with selected short stories and poetry by Anglo-Welsh writers such as Gwyn Jones, Alun Lewis and Dylan Thomas, we will be investigating the status of Welsh writing in English as a new voice for Wales, and exploring how this has increasingly become a political, as well as cultural issue. Starting with discussions around what constitutes the genre, and what makes it specifically Welsh – “un-English” despite the language in which it is written –, we will then reflect on how post-colonial approaches have been applied to Anglo-Welsh writing as a literature of activism, trauma and struggle.
Empfohlene Literatur: Texts will be made available in the form of a Reader by the start of term. A list of relevant secondary material will be also be made available.
Digitale Lehre: Students should expect to attend this seminar in person in Germersheim in the allotted timeslot.
