Inhalt: The Covid-19 pandemic has hit urban structures (cities) more strongly than rural areas. Within cities, it has hit some areas to a larger extent than others. Possible explanations pertain to density, congestion, and inequality, to name examples. This course uses theory and empirical patterns to understand why and how cities form, and to shed light on the benefits and costs of cities. The tutorial serves to deepen our understanding of these questions. We will shed light on the following questions. Why do cities and agglomerations emerge? What causes urban growth and decline? Why does the price of land vary within cities? Why is economic activity unequally distributed within cities and agglomerations?
