Inhalt: The course will focus on the phenomenon of Digital Social Reading (DSR) and its impact in the study of book technologies and reading experiences. After an overview of the main DSR platforms (such as Goodreads, Wattpad, and LovelyBooks) and of the different fields of study involved in their analysis, the course will discuss a series of case studies exploring DSR from the point of view of reading research. Particular attention will be paid to phenomena like narrative absorption, emotions, and literary evaluation, with a specific focus on the use of computational methods for analyzing wide collections of digital texts. Students will be involved in multiple activities, from seminar discussions to experiments with tools and platforms. The course will be taught entirely in English.
