Inhalt:
The so-labelled exercise course aims at providing students of Classical Archaeology with methods and operative keys to describe and interpret an ancient, Roman monument in its context – within a proper, both methodological and theoretical framework. Activities carried on within the course will be divided into two parts and scheduled accordingly. In the first part, lectures (in English) will focus on topics such as architectural typologies (temples, fora, basilicas, monumental arches, theatres, amphitheatres, circuses, thermae, domus), architectural orders and decoration, building materials, and construction techniques in the Roman world. Insights about study cases, especially in Roman Africa, will enrich the discourse. In the second part, students will be asked to write and present short essays, regarding an ancient monument dating from the Roman period, by applying the analysis methods provided in the previously addressed lectures.
