Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: Zulassung gemäß Richtlinie über den Zugang zu teilnahmebeschränkten Lehrveranstaltungen vom 07. März 2007. This course will take place weekly in face-to-face teaching sessions in Germersheim. Students who need a mark will be required to do a Referat and submit a Hausarbeit.
Inhalt: In 1920, Agatha Christie’s debut novel The Mysterious Affair at Styles appeared in Britain, a work that would launch Christie's stellar career as one of the leading European crime writers of the 20th century. This course begins by examining what was unusual about Christie’s plots and characterisation through a study of this work. It also reflects on her position as a female writer of crime fiction, emerging from a Victorian legacy, before going on to investigate the transposition of this work into film and its translation into various different languages, including German. There will therefore be scope for students to investigate forms of intermedial transfer as well as to examine the translation and reception of the work in the cultures and languages which they bring to the course.
