Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches:
Please note: This is not a weekly class! We will meet for a first session on Monday, April 17, at 11:20 to discuss the structure and set-up of the class, and then again for three project days throughout the semester

Inhalt:
In crises, communication is key. But who exactly communicates what, how and to whom? How much of that communication can take place ahead of time to make the public more aware of potential hazards and appropriate responses? And can games be used as a channel for such public safety communication?

The project-based course will explore these and related issues of civil protection. It combines participatory action research and service learning, which means students will do hands-on, real-life “field work”. The class links theory and practice. Through interaction with outside professionals and in cooperation with local bodies we will explore how multi-lingual games can be used to prepare the public for crisis. This course is for students interested in exploring how their language skills, scientific outreach, and ability to facilitate cultural transfer contribute to the shaping of social infrastructures.

Zusätzliche Informationen:
Erasmus students are welcome. There is no exam, paper, or grade at the end of the class. Instead, a "pass" is based on active participation throughout the semester.

The data and information gathered in this class can be used as a basis for writing M.A. or B.A. theses.
