Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: On the basis of a selection of representative texts, this course will provide a survey of the main epochs of British Literature since the Renaissance, recapitulate literary genres/sub-genres, protagonists and terminology and identify potential topics for the oral exam to be taken by M.Ed. students following the colloquium. M.A. students might find it a source of inspiration for their theses.
Empfohlene Literatur: Students are expected to obtain the following texts (and, ideally, read them before the start of the semester): William Shakespeare, King John (1594-96) Maria Edgeworth, Letters for Literary Ladies (1795/98) Virginia Woolf, Jacob's Room (1922) Angela Carter, Heroes and Villains (1969) Please obtain good, edited versions of the texts by Shakespeare, Woolf and Carter (Arden/Oxford edition of the play, Penguin editions of the novels). Do not purchase print-on-demand versions! An electronic version of Edgeworth's text and additional will be made available via Moodle.
Zusätzliche Informationen: Course requirements: ALL students: Completion of preparatory tasks and further tasks set as "aktive Teilnahme" (to be specified at the beginning of the semester). M.A. students: writing a short (3-4-page) term paper on a topic previously discussed with me; M.Ed. students: oral exam on the basis of course content.
