Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: This course provides a foundational understanding of the principles and techniques underlying the study of sentence structure. This course explores the fundamental concepts of generative syntax, focusing on Chomsky's transformational-generative grammar framework. Students will learn how to analyze and represent the hierarchical organization of sentences using phrase structure rules, X-bar theory, and movement operations. The course covers key topics such as constituency, grammatical relations, phrase types, and syntactic transformations. Through hands-on exercises and analyses of real-world language data, students will develop their analytical skills and gain insight into the universal principles that govern sentence formation across languages. By the end of the course, students will have a solid grasp of the theoretical foundations of generative syntax and be able to apply them in their own linguistic analyses.
