Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: Today, literary scholars often speak about the "transnational turn" in American studies and discuss US-American literature within the context of cultural encounters and exchanges with the rest of the world. In this course, we will read and study contemporary novels, short stories, and other literary texts that address migration, the myth of the American Dream, and transnational experiences from within and outside the US. Students will familiarize themselves with theoretical and methodological approaches to transnational literature via postcolonial studies, hemispheric studies, and concepts like Afropolitanism.
