Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: While many know William Faulkner as an acclaimed Southern writer, who received the Noble Prize in Literature (1949), few are aware of the fact that his writing is characterized by distinct women characters, who dominate the narratives. Instead of focusing on male heroism in the Civil War, many of the narratives represent the female perspective amd give a voice to Southern women. In the course we will read and discuss the following works: Short Stories: "A Rose for Emily" (1930) "My Grandmother Millard, and General Bedford Forrest and the Battle of Harrykin Creek" (1943) "Mountain Victory" (1932) "That Evening Sun" (1930) "There Was a Queen" (1933) Novels: Absalom, Absalom! (1936) The Unvanquished (1938)
