Inhalt: This seminar is designed to help you develop an understanding of the American West as a real place, as a metaphor, and as a myth. We will study people, governments, organizations, and cultural products under the auspices of cultural, economic, environmental, and intellectual history. We will approach cultures and economic systems that developed in the American West and ones that it was subjected to, find out about ways of life and conflicts, and tackle the idea and meaning of the “West” both in history and in the present.
