Inhalt:
The environmental crisis we are currently facing – including climate change and biodiversity loss – is also a cultural crisis. With the loss of animals, plants and habitats, we also face losing the ability to speak about these essential parts of our world. But there is hope in literature: “Nature Writing” aims at promoting and deepening our awareness towards more-than-human nature in combining both scientific facts and poetic language.

In this course, we will explore the field of Nature Writing through reading, writing and translating. We will have a focus on Nature Poetry – however, instead of conducting classical poetry analysis, we will focus on the creative and practical part of writing and translating. Backed up with some theoretical reading, we will read British Nature Poetry, from the 19th to the 21st century. We will study German translations of these poems and produce our own translations. Finally, we will write and translate our own pieces of Nature Writing.

You do not need to be an experienced poet to join this course – a passion for language is enough!

This course will be taught in English mainly.
