Language has sometimes been considered a 'loaded weapon', for it contains a large number of words and expressions that should or must not be used. This class is to provide insights into the different linguistic sectors and situations connected to this topic, and into the roles these items play in everyday reality. We will cover taboo language, impolite speech, swearing and insults, expletives, euphemisms and dysphemisms, politically (in-)correct speech, hate speech, but will also treat issues of intitutional and individual censorhip.
