Contents: „Verlagsführung und -organisation: the perception and the teaching of publishing in English-language cultures“ (englisch) In this seminar, we will use the focus on the (internal) organization as well as management / leadership of publishing houses to get an impression on the specifities of the publishing industry and in particular the perception as well as the teaching of publishing in english-language cultures. The books we will consult reach from introductory textbooks like the one by Clark and Phillips via handbook-like surveys like the one by Greco et al. on US publishing to influential monographs on wider (John Thompson´s Bourdieu-informed books on academic as well as trade publishing) or narrower (Davis´ book on editorial commissioning and acquisition) aspects of publishing.
