Requirements / organisational issues:
An important feature of this seminar will be independent group work. Groups of four participants will explore and research an aspect of Scotland for a PowerPoint presentation. Some suggestions will be given and others brainstormed in class, but the final decisions on topics will come from the respective groups.
Groups must organise their own research, decide on priorities and come up with a presentation conceived and designed by themselves.
Assessment will be on the basis of the presentation (20%) and an essay of 2,500 words (80%).
Essay topics will be given out during the semester and will be on subjects discussed in class, including: Scottish literature, travel writing, history, politics, society, arts and popular culture.
