This course is intended for students with Chinese as (one of) their foreign language/s.
There is no certain knowledge or understanding of economics or commerce required for this course, although it would be helpful, of course. However, what is expected from students is a certain willingness to engage in the search for terms and translation solutions with tenacity, not just on "the internet" but also in various reference works and monographies.
Contents:
This term we shall continue to work on texts about how import and export transactions are done and what happens at customs. Since a lot of communication between partners engaging in import and export is done in English, we will not work on contracts and commercial letters or such. Instead, we shall look at, on the one hand, at texts which introduce trainees to their work in this business, and on the other hand, at texts which are more technical in nature about processes at customs' offices, news about changes in tariffs and such.
