This course will examine British subcultures from perspectives ranging from social class and gender to strictly cultural matters of fashion, art and music.

My main aim on this course is to examine British culture through the lens of subcultures. If subcultures result from youth discontent with a dominant social discourse, then what can that tell us about the political and sociological landscape of the United Kingdom at a given moment?

A recommended reading list for the course is provided with the first lesson. Assessment will take the form of written assignments.
