Contents:
On the basis of a selection of representative texts, this course will provide a survey of the main epochs of British Literature since the Renaissance, recapitulate literary genres/sub-genres, protagonists and terminology and identify potential exam and thesis topics. The texts treated provide the exam topics for the “Modulprüfung” to be taken by M.Ed. students.

WIlliam Shakespeare, Measure for Measure (1694), Maria Edgeworth, Letters for Literary Ladies (1795/98), Joseph Conrad, The Secret Agent (1907), Doris Lessing, The Memoirs of a Survivor (1974), as well as the additional materials provided via JGU Reader.
All students are expected to have read all texts!

M.A. students: writing a short (3-4-page) term paper on a topic previously discussed with me; M.Ed. students: oral exam (details to follow)
